Now is the time to be creative

project readying If there was ever a need to be creative, now is the time. Many people are being encouraged to stay at home and practice social distancing when going out. This can be troubling and challenging for some people . The short term solution? get creative. Now is the time to start that project you have been wanting to start- read that book you have been meaning to read. I , for one, have loads of ideas and yet still not quite enough time to implement them, but I’ll d

    Keeping Warm With Wool

Last week it was cold outside- well, it should be after all, it is January ! While I was shoveling it occurred to me that my mother is still keeping me warm. She has been gone since 1999, yet still she cares for me. Wearing wool mittens that she knit when I was probably in college, my fingers kept very toasty and warm. Wearing a waterproof over- mitt kept the mittens dry, although they may have stayed dry without that. That’s the thing with wool- it is very hard for water to

    Current projects

The current projects in and around the house are many. Trying to stick to just one is a real challenge for me- seeing something that has to be done when I am in a certain room distracts me from the task I might be currently working on. This multi tasking thing doesn’t “really” work. In theory it may sound like a good idea but in reality I think I get less done than if I stick to one project- finished it and then moved on to another to work on until it’s completion. My thought

Naming wool is like naming kittens

Naming my wool is like naming kittens. Each wool takes on a different character from it’s color and textures. Kittens are like that too and just as hard to part with. Stubby ( my gray bobtailed cat), Blackie ( my brother named him…), Goldy (my goldfish that evolved into “Silver” as he aged). I’d like to think that my naming has gotten a bit more sophisticated. I wonder where my wool is going when I hear that “cha ching” – will it be part of a rug? a mat? a tree? a bag? a stas

At the burn pile with opera

Art burning brush How many of you listen to opera while burning brush? You don’t? well I don’t, necessarily either, but my husband does. He is in absolute heaven! His favorite things are gardening, books and opera on Saturday afternoon. Art burning leaves and sticks Hmmmm. Did I know this when I married him those many years ago? No, but did he know that I would have a wool collection that rivals any good rug hooking establishment, multiple hooking frames, patterns, bolts of l

    The joy of books

I have been reading to these two since they were, literally, infants. When the older one was 3 months old I discovered that putting him in his crib and reading him a story was quite soothing for him. Yes, just the sound of my voice was reassuring , but it was building that joy of books that he has grown to love. His sister, not to ever be outdone by her brother , has joyously followed suit. “Can you read me a story?” is often the second thing out of her mouth, after “hello Gr

Did you know I am working on my website shop?

Did you know that you can buy ETSY gift cards for your loved ones? It’s so easy- I accept them, but then so do loads of other ETSY sellers. This is a great way to support handmade sellers and artisans while giving a gift that the recipient can choose for him or herself. Did you know that you can get one by checking out this link? https://www.etsy.com/giftcards So- when you are trying hard to figure out just what to give that special someone- look no further than the ETSY gift

207 Creatives – who are we?

207 Creatives is a collective of three fiber artists who have joined together to bring you unique fiber events and experiences. We are, what you would call, slow makers- our craft takes time to produce. Planning, drawing, hand dyeing wool, color planning a piece, cutting the wool strips (worms), hooking it all by hand and finally the binding. The three of us run our own shops and businesses, each offering something slightly different than the others. At the end of 2016, we de
